Summary

Mental States gives every survivor a breaking point: low mood brings breaks from sulking to catatonia, and high spirits bring inspirations.

Details

Mood breaks: after an hour or more of low mood a survivor can break. Minor breaks (sulking, hiding away, comfort eating, picking fights, withdrawn) take only free time. Major breaks include a tantrum, a daze, a breakdown, binge eating and lashing out. Extreme breaks are berserk, catatonic, a fixation on an enemy, and giving up and walking away; that never leaves fewer than three survivors. Alerts show who is on edge and who is about to break; names turn yellow or violet during a break. Inspirations (work frenzy, steady hands, silver tongue, healer's touch, green thumb) give a real boost, and the name turns green. Visitors break too, rarely and harmlessly. Five combat states (panicking, cowering, surrendered, making a last stand, berserk) are provided for combat mods. Requires the AshForge Mod Loader, installed by the AshForge Hub.

v1.0.2October 22, 2026
  • FixedMore of the colony you left is freed when you quit to the main menu. The timers that space out mood breaks still held on to it, and with it the whole world, until the next save loaded.
v1.0.1October 21, 2026
  • ChangedSafer alongside other mods. With the AshForge loader installed, this mod's game patches now go through the loader's own copy of Harmony, the patching library. Two mods changing the same part of the game from different copies of Harmony could silently cancel each other out; on one shared copy both changes take effect.
  • FixedThe name-plate colours for mental states could go missing when Chains of Ash was installed.

  • AddedFourteen mood breaks in three tiers, with cooldowns, relief, notices and alerts.
  • AddedFive inspirations from high spirits.
  • AddedVisitor breaks, and five combat states for combat mods.
